Spiti is a high-altitude region located in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The name "Spiti" means "the middle land", as it lies between Tibet and India. Spiti is a desert mountain valley that is cut off from the rest of the world for almost six months due to heavy snowfall. The region is characterized by barren mountains, high passes, and deep gorges.
